Tatars' invasion in Moldova ruined the skete, destroying it and burning the church. After the horrible events held in 1757, the nuns were forced to leave the skete. In the late '60s of the 18 th century, Mihalcea Hancu’s successor, Lupu Hancu who became one of the richest boyars of Moldova, during the reign of Mihai Racovita (1757) asks the hieromonk Varlaam during 1870-1872 with several monks adorn the skete surroundings with gardens and orchards; repair the cells and skete, everything with the financial support and contribution of the boyar Lupu Hancu, who also builds a new church. In 1784 the abbot of the monastery Varlaam II builds a wooden church dedicated to the "Assumption of Virgin Mary" and a few cells for monks. During the Second World War, in April 1944, before the beginning of Iasi - Chisinau operation, some monks of Hancu monastery werw evacuated to Romania. When the military operations finished, most of the monks who remained i the monastery were arrested and taken to prison of Braila town in Southern Romania. In September 1949Hancu monastery was closed. In the '60s -'80s of the 20th century on the territory of the monastic complex Hancu, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova built the Pulmologic Diseases Sanatorium "Codrii". In 1992, after being closed for a period of 43 years, Hancu Monastery begins to operate again. In speing of 1993, the repairing of the Winter Church dedicated to the "Assumption of Virgin Mary" begins, and 1994 the Summer Church dedicated to "Saint Pious Parascheva" begins to be repaired. On the occasion of the celebration of 2000 years since the birth of Jesus Christ, with the blessing of His Eminence Vladimir Metropolitan of Chisinau and all Moldova, on 27 October the place of the cathedral was consecrated, being dedicated to the holy apostoles "Peter and Paul". The cathedral is currently under construction.
