DESCRIPTION

The Botanical Garden was founded in 1950 and is located on the outskirts of Chişinău (Botanica district) near the well-known City Gates. This Natural Monument proves to be the miniature of the Moldovan relief, thanks to the its valleys, lakes and soil types (about 24 species). Its total area is of 104 hectares. The park has a waterfall consisting of 4 lakes that, even in dry years, have enough water to irrigate the garden’s vegetation. The garden is divided into several sectors – Arboretum (trees, shrubs, lianas), elements of the Moldovan flora (Codri), the floricultural, medicinal and experimental sectors of tropical and subtropical plants with greenhouses and a variety of mini exhibitions. In the recent years, near the administrative building, the “Alpinarium” was built from the Cosăuți stones, and has become a great platform for viewing the lower side of the park. Currently, the garden has about 10 thousand species of soil types and cultivated plants. Many people consider this garden as being one of the most favorite places to rest, even on weekdays. The park is extremely crowded on weekends and holidays. People come here with children, friends and relatives in order to have long and calm walks on the alleys and paths of the park, sit on the shore of the lake, climb to the top of the “Alpinarium” or simply sit on a bench. Besides the diversity of plant species, including the exotic ones, the garden has a  well planned territory. This is to be considered when having a walk in this park, as it feels like you are in another part of the world. There are two touristic attractions at the Botanical Garden – the blooming tree of pink magnolia (in the late April) and of course the blooming Japanese cherry (sakura), which flourishes in the beginning of May. The park has many open spaces, buildings, galleries, gardens, lakes, but you'll be impressed when visiting the lower side of the park, near the waterfall lakes. Here you can often see various birds - wild ducks, doves, thrushes and many others. We invite you to come into this amazing fairytale world of the Botanical Garden, together with the CASA MARE team!
